On October 15, 2009 the Bishop of Durango, Mexico blessed San Francisco de Asis Friary. It was cause for a goodcelebration.

Fresh stucco and new windows will brighten the appearance and keep the winter rain out of
St. Conrad Friary in Berkeley, CA. Work will hopefully be finished by the end of this September.

Community for the friary of San Francisco de Asis in Durango Mexico has
been appointed. Friary construction and fittings soon to be completed.
Jairo Lima (Guardian), Francisco Emmanuel Alcala, Jose Armando Leyva Martinez and Joseph Seraphin Dederick (vicar) make up the first assigned community of Durango. Postulants will be added later.

The Capuchins of Western America invite young men interested in learning more about the Capuchin way of life to visit us on a weekend retreat. "Come and See" weekends are hosted by the Capuchins throughout the year as an opportunity for young men to get to know the friars better and learn more about our Order. The retreat includes daily Mass, liturgy of the hours, talks by various friars and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

BR. JOSEPH SERAPHIN ORDAINED TO PRIESTHOOD
MARCH 7, 2008
On March 7, 2009, Br. Joseph Seraphin Dederick was ordained to the priesthood at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Rocklin, California by Bishop Richard Garcia of Monterey. The First Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving followed on Sunday March 8th
at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Rocklin, California.
Fr. Joseph and his family have lived in Loomis, CA for many years. After studying music at UCSB and playing music professionally, he joined the Capuchins in the year 2000. While getting his Masters degree at The Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, he specialized his study in both the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures. During his diaconate year he assisted at Our Lady of Angels Parish in Burlingame, CA. He has been temporarily assigned to St Lawrence of Brindisi Parish in Los Angeles. Joseph has also studied Spanish and is preparing to join
our missionaries in Mexico. After the summer he will join the new community in Durango, Mexico.
